Desire for lust or material has tempted Siddhartha into entering Kamala and Kamaswami's domain, the Ordinary World Siddhartha was trying to separate himself from, and hides its negative nature from Siddhartha by hiding behind Kamala, a wonderful woman who Siddhartha wants to woo. Desire, after many years of being back in the Ordinary World, causes Siddhartha to question his ability to continue his quest, as he has forgotten the lessons he learned from the Samanas, and lost sight of his goal: enlightenment. It eventually contributes to his Ordeal, infusing suspence into the audience.
